Tip of the Day:
I cannot say this enough - BACK UP YOUR WORK. Never save in only one location, especially if that location is portable (a flash drive) or shared with someone else (family computer). Save to the computer, the flash drive, and email your work to yourself.
Every year I hear stories about people losing entire novels because they lost a flash drive, or the computer got a virus, or their dad reformatted the computer... the list goes on and on.
And for the love of all that is words, SAVE. Even worse than the stories of "I lost my only file" are the ones where people say, "I lost two hours of work I hadn't saved yet." In most writing programs, ctrl-S or apple-S will save the file. Do not rely on auto-save. That perfect stretch where you wrote two thousand words in an hour is exactly when freak lightning will hit your house and the power will go out, or you will get the blue screen of death for the first time ever on that computer.
