"We're the only country on earth stitched together by words and, most important, their dangerous progeny, ideas. And those ideas have had weight. They have had force, not just for us in our eternal dealings, but for the rest of the world." ~ Ken Burns

Day 16

"There is no royal path to good writing; and such paths as do exist do not lead through neat critical gardens, various as they are, but through the jungles of self, the world, and of craft."

~Jessamyn West, Saturday Review, 21 September 1957

Prompts of the Day:

In a crowded place, your character hears someone whispering...

Or

Your character is all alone, and yet years someone whispering.

Tip of the Day:

Someone posted a great tip in today's comments (which I am writing in, since she posted before I actually did). There are fifteen days of prompts behind us. Have you tried looking back, and seeing if there are any you can now use, or which you can use in a new way, now that your story has progressed a little?

  1. This one was particularly inspiring. :P

Okay, actually, that was sort of sarcastic, sort of straight: I actually went back and reread the prompt you posted on Day 1, and it was way more helpful today than it was 15 days ago. Maybe as part of the second half of the month, you can remind people to go back to the earlier prompts and try to fit them into their stories in new or alternative ways, now that they know a lot more about their world than they used to.
