Welcome to Nyeusigrube

"We're the only country on earth stitched together by words and, most important, their dangerous progeny, ideas. And those ideas have had weight. They have had force, not just for us in our eternal dealings, but for the rest of the world." ~ Ken Burns

Day 30

"Dancing in all its forms cannot be excluded from the curriculum of all noble education; dancing with the feet, with ideas, with words, and, need I add that one must also be able to dance with the pen?"

- Friedrich Nietzsche

Prompts of the Day:

It's the end of NaNo, so here you go... it's time for true love's kiss. Or, someone gets slapped. Remember, just because 30 days are done, it doesn't mean your story is.

Tip of the Day:

Do NOT forget to validate! Many good folk have finished 50k and then forgotten to officially validate on the NaNo site. Try to validate early; the site in the past has always lagged more and more as midnight gets closer.

Of course, if you're like me, you will probably write your final word at 11:57 pm in which case... good luck!

Day 29 - Almost there!

"Life can't ever really defeat a writer who is in love with writing, for life itself is a writer's lover until death - fascinating, cruel, lavish, warm, cold, treacherous, constant."

~Edna Ferber, A Kind of Magic, 1963

Prompts of the Day:

Here's a great one from Kml: The ending you thought out, planned for, and truly hoped for doesn't happen! Completely change the end of your novel, destroying your characters' hopes just in time for the most unlikely person/thing to save the day. Or just twist the ending so that even you end up surprised by how things turn out.

Day 28

"The process of writing has something infinite about it. Even though it is interrupted each night, it is one single notation."

~ Elias Canetti

Prompts of the Day:

From Silver Twilight:
Someone is in pain. Physical or emotional, your choice. Your MC has to do something about it.

Day 27

"Ink and paper are sometimes passionate lovers, oftentimes brother and sister, and occasionally mortal enemies."

~Terri Guillemets

Prompts of the Day:

From Rayne:
Look at a random photo and use the setting/surroundings of it as a scene in your book.

Day 26

"Don't try to figure out what other people want to hear from you; figure out what you have to say. It's the one and only thing you have to offer."

~ Barbara Kingsolver

Prompts of the Day:

From an Anonymous Writer: An infestation of something (bugs, rodents, unwanted family members, etc.) causes your character irritation.

From Raynelyn: Oh no! Your character has lost something: their mind, keys, a loved one... you decide!

(Keep your prompts coming in the comments, and I'll post them up! Thank you all who jumped at that suggestion.)

Thoughts of the Day:

How y'all feeling? Ready for a big day of writing? Or still sleeping off turkey, or hanging out with relatives? We're nearing the end of November. I have come up with a plan to get me past the hump I was having trouble with, so I am hoping to do a lot of catching-up today... before I go out to see Harry Potter VII (Part 1) this evening with my cousins. Good times!

Day 25 - Happy Thanksgiving, USAmericans!

"You write to communicate to the hearts and minds of others what's burning inside you. And we edit to let the fire show through the smoke."

~Arthur Polotnik

I don't know about you, but I don't do a lot of writing on Thanksgiving, even with NaNo going on. I have family over. I'm currently only on the computer because we're waiting for the mince meat pie to finish so we can put the cherry pie and kugel in the oven.

Whether or not you're in the USA celebrating Thanksgiving, make sure you take time to recognize the people you love, and give thanks for their existence in your life.

In other news: New idea! The first person to check the blog in the morning must write a prompt in the comments.
